I think it's overly obvious that almost nobody comes here anymore. And those people who do come here are as loud as mutes. Heh.

So since I am rather bored, and I just so happened to be hit by a glob of inspiration a few weeks ago, i have decided to do something about this dusty space.

As part of the original group that decided to create a blog for our dancesport club in Ngee Ann Poly, I feel that that idea is rather moot. It should not be an exclusive type of blog that caters to the 'either-or' of dancers in...well... of dancers.

In any case, I intend to start posting regularly here. Er, by regularly I suppose that would be a post every few days, and a week at the most. Anybody else wanting to post stuff is extremely welcome to, just as long as it's dance related. Although this is primarily a DanceSport blog, I suppose I would welcome discussion of other dances, for the principles from many other dances also apply to DanceSport.

Let's just steer well clear from BreakDancing. The HipHop stream is non-conformist and free-flowing by nature and hence the term : Free Stylin'

So. If you wish to post something up here, I suppose you could ask for posting rights by emailing dancerholics@gmail.com . You can also mail a synopsis of what you want to say there as well.

It's rather sloppy and stuff, but until we think of a better method, let's stick with that, yes?

Okay. Hrm. That should be about it. Thanks to bren for all the efforts in trying to keep this place (barely) alive.

And one last thing: I am not the voice of a professional dancer. I may not say the most....useful things at times. All the stuff by me is, well, my personal opinion and stuff I have learnt through what little experience I've had. For proper..um..teachings, go ask your instructors.

What a day. I just came down from work, put on my dancing shoes and danced the night away - as usual. Everyone is doing their best to improve themselves as we practiced our Cha Cha Cha and Rumba routines over and over again.

As dancers, we shouldn't be putting ourselves in a negative perspective in hope that it will spur us on. It won't. Everyone should look forward to the greater challenges ahead of everyone of us and YES! DON'T LOOK DOWN WHEN YOU'RE DANCING!!!

Dance for the October Holidays!

NOTE: Caryn, just when I wanted to update, you were faster than I am -_-

Dance is back on track once again after the (dreaded) September exams. We had a Rumba Beginners' Class last Tuesday. It's good to see everyone dancing after the exams - because (for me) I love the grooves, the music and not forgetting - the company. :)

The seniors FINALLY got their IVP (Inter-Varsity Programme) Jackets after a long long wait. We also claimed the cash for our costumes too. Now, we NEVER have to be dwarfed by the other CCAs who wear the same jacket and walk around the campus as-if-their-CCAs-is-the-BEST-CCA-EVAR! Dancesports rockz too, yes Caryn?

What's up for Dancesports? Well, there's an October competition coming soon (Daryl said it's the Lion City, but I'm not too sure about that). At the beginning of October, there will also be a Dancesports chalet organised by Karen ~~and yours truly~~ (that was last year). Hope that all of the NPDS people can turn up so that we can have loads of fun together! (nothing sexual in nature, of course)

Most of us seniors are very much looking forward to the juniors participation in the upcoming competitions. Ask anyone of us and we'll tell you that each and every competition had been an euphoric experience for us. The memories we have collected in each and every competition will follow us throughout our lives. For me, I find myself drawing closer to my friends in every competition. Nadia, Daryl and Marcus could testify to that ;).

IVP Jackets!

Hey people! I see this place is practically dead. No offence to anyone. Haha!

Anyway, a few of us are thinking of stitching 'Dancesports' on the back of our IVP jackets (yes, the long awaited ones), and maybe our names on the front. And since it's cheaper in Malaysia, well, you can guess the rest. =)

So, those who are interested, drop me a mail or something yeah? See you people during practice!

p.s. Oh right, and just to add on, Karen has booked a chalet for us dancerholics on the 5th, 6th and 7th of October. If I'm not wrong, it's $20 per person, including meals and lodging. Drop her a mail or something if you're interested, yeah? That's all folks!

3rd Reincarnation

This will officially be the third time I'm trying to revive the blog... again. -_-

About a few posts back, I mentioned my wish to actually bring this blog back to life again. Unfortunately, due to lack of information on my part (read: not being kaypo enough in the club) and being busy with practices... I lost touch with the blog (and the MSN Group). Eventually, the blog collected dusts and codwebs... again. *rolls eyes*

My apologies. :(

NPDS 2nd AGM

Today, we had our Ngee Ann Polytechnic DanceSports 2nd Annual General Meeting. In this meeting, we recognised the achievements of our club, released the financial report of the year 2004/2005 and officially declared the new Executive Committee.

Jin Jin, the NPDS president of 2004/2005, congratulated the couples who took part in the recent 6th SGDF Dancesports Chanpionships on 31st July 2005. The couples mentioned were Brennan & Vanessa, Choon Lim & Caryn and Daryl & Cheryl for their achievements in the Championships.

Michael, the NPDS Treasurer of 2004/2005, elaborated on the Financial Report of the year 2004/2005. The payment collected from the Seniors were spent on our annual SGDF membership fee, the CCA Fiesta 2005, the Shawn & Gladys Dance Studio's instructor fees and the club bonding events that were organised.

The highlight of this AGM was the election of the new Executive Commitee for the year 2005/2006. The nominees were proposed by a proposer and seconder by the members of our club. The nominees are as follows:

President: Jin Jin and Vanessa
Vice-President: Vanessa and Daryl
Secretary: Natalie
Publicity Manager: Judith
Treasurer: Daryl
Events Coordinator: Caryn

The club members were allowed to vote for the above members. Voting was done systhematically by announcing the commencement of the above positions - after which, the members write the name of the desired nominee on a small piece of paper. This piece of paper is then collected and counted to determine the winning nominee of the paticular position. For positions with only one nominee, there will be a walkover.

With the completion of the election, we're proud to announce the new comimittee:

Vice-President: Vanessa
Secretary: Natalie
Publicity Manager: Judith
Treasurer: Daryl
Events Coordinator: Caryn

With the new executive in committee in place, we will very much Look Forward to the Oncoming Year Ahead for the NPDS!

Anyway, there'll be a Freshie Orientation this coming Tueaday, 31st May 2005 @ 6pm.

FRESHIES:

Bring along $20. $10 is for lesson fee, the other $10 is for registration fee. What is this registration fee for? This is to register you as a member of SGDF (the Singapore Dancesport Federation by the way) so that you can join their competitions organised by them later.

The 9^th Malaysia Open 2005 DanceSport Championships details follow:

Date: 1^st May 2005, Sunday
Venue: Olympic Sports Complex, Wisma OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat, KL.
Events applicable for NP Students: Beginners Cha Cha, Beginners Jive

We will be departing on Friday night 29^th Apr and be back on Monday 2^nd May in the evening.

The official hotel that we will be staying will be Radius International Hotel (3-star) for the 2 nights. The rates are about RM $120 per night. So I will be getting 3 rooms for 7 couples. The school has agreed to subsidise 50% of the accommodation, so everyone will have to pay not more than S$30 for the hotel. There will also be a registration for the competition for couples, the school will be paying fully for the registration fees.

UPDATES!

Jin Jin just called me (and I guess - the other couples going) to let us know that we will be Departing Singapore on Friday Night instead of Saturday Morning. Why is this so? It's because 1st May is a Public Holiday and most Singaporeans will be going up to Malaysia for a weekend getaway.

So you can pretty much imagine how's it like being on the causeway... on Friday morning. *stessful*

It's also based on Jin Jin's experience with the previous competition in Malaysia last year. It was the Good Friday weekend and the whole dance team was stranded on the causeway... for 10 hours! So be prepared for the Jam too... other than that, it should be a smooth trip to KL. ;)

I just received Jinjin's message yesterday afternoon, and several changes to the information that I've entered here have to be made.

Venue: Olympic Sports Complex, Wisma OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat, KL

Where is it? I checked the street directory (the link brings you to the above location) of Kuala Lumpur and I found that it's at the City Centre, somewhere near KLCC to be exact. Two of the city's tallest landmarks - the Pentrona Towers and KL Tower - are nearby.

Events applicable for Ngee Ann Students: Beginners Cha Cha Cha and Beginners Jive

We are quite comfortable with Cha Cha, but the problem lies in Jive (my personal view). Because we are only going to finish learning our basic Jive routine very soon... so we may need some time in getting used to it. Anyway, both of the events are for all of us.

Depart Singapore: Morning of Saturday, 30th April 2005
Return Singapore: Evening of Monday, 2nd May 2005

Which means our schedule throughout the whole trip is very, very tight. And at the end of the day - very, very tired. So, do have enough rest on the days before the competition.

Accomodation: Radius International Hotel (3 Stars), 2 Nights

Jinjin will be asking for subsidy for our rooms (RM$120 per night) and we may pay less than S$50 per person for the room. He may also book 3-4 rooms - which means we have enough sleeping space! (YIPEE!)

UPDATES! Malaysian Dancesport Competition

This is the information I received so far about the Malaysian Competition this coming May...

Departure from Singapore on Friday afternoon.
Should be able to reach KL by late night, in the early morning of Saturday. Which means we may have a chance to have a day before the competition to enjoy ourselves in KL.
Almost the entire SGDF team + NPDS juniors will be going.
So, they'll be having 2 Coaches to send everyone up to Kuala Lumpur.
One for SGDF, another for NPDS.
VENUE: Putra Indoor Stadium (CONFIRMED)
some unimportant info - it's 20km south of Kuala Lumpur and it was the venue of the Commenwealth Games back in '98.

Everything is still in the drawing board and nothing is fixed at the moment (except for the VENUE, that is). So when there's more information, I'll furnish you guys about it ok?

For now, concentrate on your exams people (I'm losing it by the way - can't concentrate!) and after the examinations are over... practice, practice, practice!!!

There is a good competition coming up on Sunday 1 May 2005 in Kuala Lumpur. This event is sanctioned by the Malaysian DanceSport Berhad (a member of the IDSF).

Well, it's been pretty much 2 weeks since this place is last updated.

What happened lately?

3rd SGDF Nationals
... was a great success! Most of the juniors brought home something - be it a trophy, certificate or a competitive-dance experience to DIE for! For me, it was pretty memorable for me. I had the time of my life for sure! LOL.

Before I forget - formation team! We did made an impact amongst the crowd, so its totally sucessful! WooHOO!

And what can we look forward to now?

Now this is sad... 3 weeks without dance? Ya... we've got the darn-stupid-nincompoop Common Test and we also have to usher in the year of the Rooster. So Dancers! All the best for your Tests & Gong Xi Fa Cai! (Hong Bao Na Lai! LOL)

Formation Team is taking shape today (touching up on our moves, etc...). Everyone's improving & we may be performing as early as next month (details are sketchy, but we'll be ready in 1-2 months time). Anyway, we've progressed a whole lot. Gotta' keep it up!

The New Formation Team, New Members, 3 Months To Competition...

Christmas is round the corner, so Merry Merry Christmas to all!

And Formation never sounded so sweet. The New Formation would be a fusion of cha-cha, samba and a few other latin dances (which I'm not-quite-sure-of :P). I'm the blurest and newest of the lot, so I'm doing my best to catch up. Gabrielle would be saying her two-cents worth about Formation before we kick off our practice late into the night.

There'll be a Competition coming up in March. Heard that there would be more the next few months after that. So gotta' prepare juggling dance with schoolwork (especially the projects, how annoying do they get?).

I was part of the team last sem...No wish to do that again...

Remember the speech Sharon gave on your first lesson? 'Requires commitment'? Well, commitment to the club and to training for competitions is hard enough on my end.

Commitment to a performing team that is considered fairly active is something i cannot give. Before each performance, lots of practice sessions that drag late... Yea, its a real good bonding avenue, but I just cannot commit.

And then the usual will happen, the formation team will stick together, and the rest of the club will split off to form its own clique, and hopefully they will mix with the new batch of juniors coming in this sem...

After that happens, the formation team will be considered seniors... the new batch of juniors will be considered junior-seniors, and when the new school year comes around, there will be 3 groups AGAIN...

It's been ages since we've updated this blog! When was the last time we updated? November 3? Gosh.

Lotsa' stuff happened since then. We spent the entire month having Rumba - with only a handful of guys and gals only (how sad. must be the holiday blues). Maybe Jin Jin should declare the holiday as a no-dance-class period one day. I can guess what he'll say: IN YOUR DREAMSSSS....!!!!

Now the juniors (like me) are pulled in to the formation team. And it's only like Harie & I today. And I thought Jin Jin said something like 'Quite a few people joined the formation team!'

If, by now u dunno that SGDF stands for the Singapore DanceSport Federation, I can tok your head.

Anyway, from what I gather, it will be on the 28th of JAN. not NOV. Um ya. The dudes are still talking, but there's a high possibility that it will be held in NP...if it is, WOOHOO! easy traveling, no need to scratch head on how to go to some farny ulu community center.

The convention center got nice big changing room, not like the last nationals, just a side room with a blardi partition. and the girls keep going into the wrong partition. not the other way round. The floor not bad...

I hope NP students wont get to watch for free. Malu man, scarli dance halfway you see your classmate's face in the crowd. shit.

Apprently the previous dance lesson? where you made the chalet announcement? The senior class was not present. So a large buncha them dont know. there are 2 groups of seniors, just in case U did not know. one that joined in their first sem, and the other that joined in their 2nd sem, like me.

'My' batch did not know, just informed one of them last nite. says she most prob going. she's prissylicious *points up to member list of this blog* Told her to spread the word too.

Vanessa is most prob going from what she told me. And that wraps up the report from my end.
